KidStrong vs Martial Arts: Why Reno Families Choose SBG Reno

Kidstrong Alternative

Looking for a KidStrong Alternative in Reno? Why Some Families Choose SBG Reno

Recently, a few parents have mentioned that they were looking at KidStrong before finding SBG Reno.

Some had attended KidStrong classes. Others were considering joining. A few told us they loved what KidStrong was trying to achieve but ultimately felt SBG Reno was a better fit for their family.

That got us thinking.

If local parents are asking the same questions, it’s worth explaining what makes the programs similar, where they’re different, and why many Reno families choose martial arts as their child’s long-term activity.

First, What Does KidStrong Do Well?

KidStrong has introduced many families to the idea that children’s development is about more than just sports.

Their focus on confidence, physical literacy, character development, coordination and resilience has helped many parents think differently about after-school activities. KidStrong describes itself as a science-based kids training program designed to build confident, capable children.

We think that’s a positive thing.

Any program that helps children move, learn, build confidence and develop healthy habits is doing something valuable.

Where SBG Reno Is Different

While there are similarities in the outcomes parents are looking for, the path is very different.

At SBG Reno, children aren’t just participating in activities.

They’re learning a real skill.

Real Skill Development

Our youngest students begin building age-appropriate Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and movement skills that develop over time.

As they grow, they don’t age out of the program.

They progress through it.

Children who start in our toddler and preschool programs can continue training for years, developing confidence, coordination, focus and resilience along the way. Many progress training into adulthood and some even become instructors and make it their career.

Progress You Can See

One challenge parents often face with children’s activities is knowing whether their child is actually improving.

Our curriculum provides a clear progression path.

Children learn new skills, overcome challenges and celebrate milestones along the way.

That sense of achievement becomes a powerful source of confidence.

Confidence Through Challenge

Real confidence isn’t created by being told you’re capable.

It’s created by discovering that you are.

In a safe and supportive environment, children learn how to:

  • Solve problems

  • Stay calm under pressure

  • Work with partners

  • Handle setbacks

  • Keep trying when something feels difficult

Those lessons extend far beyond the mats.

Why Families Love SBG Reno

One thing that makes SBG Reno unique is that we’re not just a children’s program.

We’re a family community.

Many activities serve only the child.

At SBG Reno, it’s common to see:

  • Toddlers training

  • Older siblings training

  • Parents taking classes

  • Entire families participating together

In fact, one of our most popular events is when parents join their children on the mats and experience training together.

For many families, that sense of connection becomes just as valuable as the physical benefits.

A Chance To Reconnect

Modern family life is busy.

Many parents spend their day sitting in front of screens, answering emails, attending meetings, commuting, running errands and keeping up with endless household responsibilities.

By the time evening arrives, you’ve dealt with your boss, worked through your to-do list and finally made it through the day.

Then your child wants your attention.

You know they deserve it, but sometimes it’s hard to think of something meaningful to do together.

That’s one of the reasons families love events like our Micro Monkey Madness classes and parent participation days.

The phones disappear.

The distractions disappear.

For an hour, it’s just you and your child learning, laughing, moving and working together.

Children absolutely love having Mum or Dad on the mats with them.

In fact, ask many of our youngest students what their favourite classes are, and they’ll often tell you it’s the ones where their parents join in.

Those moments create memories that last far longer than any individual lesson.

It’s one of the reasons we believe martial arts can be about much more than fitness, confidence or self-defence.

Sometimes it’s simply about spending quality time together.

And unlike many children’s activities, SBG Reno doesn’t just give your child something to do.

It gives families an opportunity to grow together.

More Than Just a Kids Activity

Parents today have lots of options.

There are:

  • Team sports

  • Gymnastics

  • Dance

  • Children’s fitness programs

  • Martial arts

The question isn’t simply:

“How can I keep my child active?”

It’s:

“What kind of person will this activity help my child become?”

Our goal isn’t just fitness.

We want children to become:

  • Confident

  • Respectful

  • Resilient

  • Focused

  • Kind

  • Capable

Martial arts simply happens to be the vehicle we use to teach those qualities.

Why More Preschool Families Are Discovering SBG Reno

One thing we’re particularly proud of is our community of young families.

Every week, toddlers, preschoolers and young children walk through our doors and take their first steps on the mats.

For some, it’s their first organised activity.

For others, it’s the first place they’ve truly felt part of a community.

Parents regularly tell us they’re looking for:

  • Activities for 3-year-olds in Reno

  • Activities for 4-year-olds in Reno

  • Preschool sports programs

  • Confidence-building activities

  • Family-friendly fitness options

Our programs were designed with those families in mind.

Is SBG Reno Right for Your Child?

SBG Reno may be a great fit if you’re looking for a program that helps your child:

  • Build real confidence

  • Improve focus and listening skills

  • Develop coordination and athletic ability

  • Learn valuable life skills

  • Make friends and become part of a community

  • Follow a structured path of long-term development

Most importantly, we want children to enjoy coming to class and look forward to learning every week.

The Best Way to Decide

Every child is different.

The best way to understand whether SBG Reno is the right fit is to experience it for yourself.

Come watch a class.

Meet our coaches.

See how our students interact.

And let your child try a session.

You may discover what many local families already have: a place where children build confidence, parents find community, and the whole family can grow together.

Gym With Childcare in Reno | Fitness & Jiu-Jitsu for Busy Parents

It Started With One Simple Idea
We noticed the same challenge coming up again and again.

Parents wanted to train.

They wanted to get stronger.

They wanted a positive outlet for stress.

But childcare was often the obstacle standing in the way.

So we began offering supervised childcare during our morning classes.

The response was immediate.

Within weeks, families were joining specifically because of the program. Parents started bringing toddlers, preschoolers, and homeschool-aged children. We quickly reached the point where we needed additional childcare support because so many families wanted to participate.

Some parents were so excited about the opportunity that they offered to help pay for the babysitter themselves.

Others volunteered coloring books, activities, and ideas to make the experience even better for the children.

What started as a simple solution quickly became something much bigger.

It became a community.
