Five Reasons Why You Should Train Muay Thai /Kickboxing at Tribe-SBG Reno

Muay Thai/Kickboxing is a fast paced and exciting sport that has rapidly grown in popularity over the past years. More and more people are jumping into the striking sports, not only to learn an incredibly effective form of self defense (especially when coupled with Jiu Jitsu), but to also get a great workout, meet new people, and to challenge themselves in a variety of new ways.

Here at Tribe-SBG Reno, whether you are a brand new beginner who has never put on a pair of boxing gloves, or you have trained extensively before, you will find other fantastic students and coaches ready to train alongside you on our mats. Here are five reasons why you should jump into our Muay Thai/Kickboxing classes here at Tribe:

 1) Self Defense. Muay Thai is great for self defense on your feet. It is known as “The Art of Eight Limbs,” and focusses around striking with the hands, elbows, knees, and legs. In our classes, you will learn how to control the space around you by utilizing long range strikes, such as kicks, to prevent attackers from getting too close. Further, you will learn how to manage yourself if someone gets too close, utilizing elbows and punches to stop an attacker.

Muay Thai also utilizes the clinch and sweeps, giving participants an understanding of grappling principles. Learning to sweep someone down to the ground while you stay standing is not only incredibly exciting to learn, but is also an excellent way to deal with an attacker in a self defense situation. (Don’t forget to hop into our Jiu Jitsu classes to manage your self defense once things hit the ground!).

 2) Fitness. Our striking classes offer a killer workout. You’ll find yourself sweating in each class you take, leaving you feeling stronger and healthier.

The resistance created while striking on a bag or pad will create well-defined shoulder and arm muscles, as well as strong legs and glutes. As you pivot and turn your body to strike, whether it be punches or kicks, your core will be engaged and activated, which will develop your abdominal muscles. Intentional breathing in Muay Thai is also excellent for core work.

 3) Simple. Muay Thai allows new participants to quickly understand what’s going on and jump right in. As you progress, you’ll of course refine your movements, strikes, and footwork, but being able to fully participate right away allows you to be a part of the group from the get-go. This often allows people to feel less anxious about learning the sport, and allows them to relax and just have fun with the process.

 4) Community. Tribe-SBG Reno offers a great community of people. You will find new friends and a new community that is quick to support, encourage, and help you succeed. Whether you are just interested in striking (Muay Thai/Kickboxing), or you are hoping to try out Jiu Jitsu (grappling), as well, we would love to share our mats with you as you join in to this incredible community of people!
