MEET OUR INSTRUCTORS

Tom Hakin
Coach, SBG Black Belt

Tom is an SBG black belt. He has been in law enforcement for 18 years where he has spent most of his time as a patrol officer. Tom has been part of his agency’s SWAT team for 16 years where he is currently a team leader for entries, as well as the sniper team. Apart from coaching Jiu Jitsu, he has spent 15 years as an agency firearms instructor, defensive tactics instructor, and has been the lead instructor for both SWAT school and SWAT sniper school. He’s spent time training numerous international agencies, and has both trained and trained with the FBI, Marine Corp, Air National Guard, US Army, and NCIS. He is a lifelong student, and is married with three children.

Jason Woodard
Coach, SBG Black Belt

Jason is an SBG black belt. He is a Marine Corp veteran and a 25-year law enforcement officer with experience as a SWAT Operator and Major Crimes Detective. Beyond coaching Jiu Jitsu, he has spent numerous years instructing firearms, defensive tactics, and investigations. When he’s not on the mats, you can find him enjoying archery, hunting, and hanging out with his wife, two sons, and dogs.

Jessica Locke
Owner, Coach, SBG Purple Belt

Jessica is an owner of SBG Reno, and an SBG purple belt. She has spent over 20 years working, teaching, and instructing in the field of Early Childhood Education, working to create developmentally appropriate programs across multiple fields of interest, including teaching striking and Jiu Jitsu to kids of all ages. She is a wife and mother of four homeschooled children, and heads up our Growing Gorillas Kids Program, Women’s Programs, and Homeschool Programs.

Ben Locke
Owner, Coach, SBG Brown Belt

Ben is an owner of SBG Reno, and an SBG purple belt. He has spent over 25 years teaching youth and adults in various capacities, including Jiu Jitsu. He brings his education in Business Management and Strategic Leadership to enhance SBG Reno through its business practices and program implementations. He is a husband and father of four kids.

Breau Williamson
Coach, SBG Brown Belt

Breau is an SBG purple belt. He has an extensive background serving as both an EMT and a Paramedic. He expanded within this field to teaching and educating others as a Field Training Officer and CPR Instructor. When he’s not on the mat teaching or training, you can find him working towards his degree in nursing. He is a husband and father.

Lourdes Calzada
Coach, SBG Blue Belt

Lourdes is an SBG blue belt. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and nationally Board Certified Counselor who graduated with both her Bachelor and Master degrees from UNR. She is currently pursing her Ph.D in counseling, while she simultaneously coaches a handful of co-ed classes and Spanish speaking self defense classes. She is proud to call herself the resident gym DJ, building music playlists suitable for all of our various members.

Brad Ehlen
Muay Thai Coach, SBG Purple Belt

Brad is an SBG blue belt. He is a former collegiate athlete and a current student at UNR. Besides finding time in his busy schedule to train nearly every day, he also teaches Muay Thai/Kickboxing classes for adults and teens at Tribe-SBG Reno.

Dave Harder
Youth Coach, SBG Blue Belt

Dave has been a long time Jiu Jitsu fan and finally jumped into training in 2021. Prior to coaching Jiu Jitsu, Dave coached competitive youth soccer for over 10 years, and has completed all three grass roots courses and holds his level D license with the United States Soccer Federation. He loves coaching youth and watching them grow in their craft, and is excited to bring his coaching expertise to our Growing Gorillas youth program.

Zoe Locke
Youth Coach

Zoe has been training martial arts since she was 7 years old, and began helping to coach younger children at the young age of 12. She is a natural with children, and enjoys helping them learn and grow within the sport. She is homeschooled, enjoys snowboarding, ice skating, artistic endeavors, and crushing adults in Jiu Jitsu.

Westin Hakin
Youth Coach, SBG Blue Belt

Westin officially began Jiu Jitsu at age 6, although thanks to his dad (black belt Coach Tom), he has been on the mats and around Jiu Jitsu his whole life. He began coaching the younger youth in 2023, bringing energy and enthusiasm with him everywhere he goes. He is a homeschooler, loves riding his dirt bike in his spare time, and is always found with a smile on his face.
